Dr. Jimmy Poon is a licensed MD, family physician,
who is practicing plastic surgery which is legal in Canada.

a doctor in their specialty. Any MD in Canada within the private
system, unlike the public system, can elect to perform cosmetic
surgery. They do not have to be recognized as cosmetic surgeons
by the RCPSC.
Are Most Cosmetic Surgeons MD's?
Unfortunately many MD's in Canada perform cosmetic
surgery. This is something most licensed cosmetic surgeons don't
agree with.
A board certified surgeon certification requires a person
to have:
|
| |
1) Graduated from
a medical school. |
| |
2) Completed a 5 year residency. |
| |
3) Usually 3 years experience
in general surgery. |
| |
4) Actively practiced plastic
surgery for at least 2 years. |
| |
5) Passed a written and oral
exam by the RCPSC. |
A surgeon who completes the requirements above
are considered to be board certified surgeons by the Royal College
of Physicians and Surgeons of Canada. ( RCPSC ).
Is going Non-Certified Safe?:
Although a certified surgeon does give you a higher lever of assurance,
choosing a non-certified surgeon is an option to consider.
Many Physicians have a high level of expertise and experience in
cosmetic surgery.
Example: Consider an experienced Otolaryngologist
(Ear, Nose, Throat) doctor for a Rhinoplasty (nose job or nose reshaping).
Verify your doctor
is Board Certified with the Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons
of Canada. http://royalcollege.ca/index_e.php
or the equivalent with your province.
The RCPSC certifies a doctor in their specialty so it is very
important to ensure you doctor is certified in their field
of expertise as any MD can perform cosmetic surgery.
